The iconic Silo6 is set to be transformed into a captivating space for creative exploration and environmental contemplation as it hosts the “Fluid Becoming…” exhibition. Three artists; Alysn Midgelow Marsden, Mette Hay and Janet Mazenier bring their individual and unique immersive installations across the six silos, exploring the Fluid Becoming theme’s elements of Inertia, Choice, Wonder and Place. Multiple performances, ‘activations’ and hands-on activity workshops, will be offered throughout the duration of the exhibition.

Kingsley-Spargo & Kim Meredth – January 22nd & 25th at 6PM and 7pm
Poet and multimedia artist Kim Meredith (Sāmoan, Tokelaun, Portuguese), and multi-instrumentalist/sound artist Kingsley Spargo respond to Mette Hay’s mesmerising installation Wonder as part of the Fluid Becoming… exhibition. While you might have caught their captivating performances in various galleries around Tāmaki Makaurau, these performances promise to be an altogether new experience in the reverberant Silo6.
Thomas Carroll – January 23 TBC
Thomas Carroll, ngāti Maru, Hauraki, is a Taonga puoro maker and practitioner. With a shared kopapa this will be a truly mesmerising engagement.
Inertia – Alysn’s installation in Silo2 presents visitors with reclaimed plastic, wire, and video come together to form a unique visual landscape, evoking emotions of emptiness, loss, and sadness, but also the potential for change.
Choice – Alysn’s installation in Silo1 explores the concept of choice for our future. Geological style core samples hang from the silo, each section representing different stages in our relationship with the environment.
Wonder – Mette’s installation in Silo 3 is an immersive experience offering the opportunity of discovering wonder and beauty even in the most austere of spaces, using visualised sound as a portal into the unseen.
Place – Janet’s installations in Silo 5 and 6 presents large abstract works which are rich in texture and inspired by the natural world. These pieces engage with place, space, time, colour, and materiality, offering you a sensory and visual journey.
